NORTH HAVEN, Connecticut

Representing a new voice in local government, Cohen campaigns and wins on a message of shared values, bipartisanship collaboration and putting people over politics.

Record setting number of votes for Democratic Selectman in North Haven in over a decade.

NORTH HAVEN, Connecticut — On Tuesday, Democrat David Cohen decisively won a seat on the North Haven Board of Selectmen in the 2025 municipal general election, representing a new voice and new generation of leadership for the local Democratic Party and Town of North Haven. With preliminary results from the Secretary of the State and all poll sites reporting, Cohen received 2,294 votes among 6,103 total votes cast for the Board of Selectmen, representing 38% of the vote — earning widespread support from a broad-based coalition of Democrats, Republicans and Independents. This is a record number of votes received by a Democratic candidate for selectman in over a decade in North Haven.

“Contrary to the hyper-partisanship and gridlock we see at the federal level, our campaign showed that Democrats, Republicans and Independents can come together, work together and partner together around a common set of shared values to advance common goals and common sense solutions. People are hungry for a government that works collaboratively to get things done and that puts people over politics,” said Selectman-elect David Cohen. Cohen continued, “The vast majority of our residents want the same things: an affordable town where we can live, work and raise our families – a town with a growing local economy, great schools, safe streets and a vibrant quality of life that connects and binds us as a community. That will be my focus as selectman and I’m incredibly excited about North Haven’s future and what we can and will accomplish together.”

said Cohen.

Tuesday’s general election victory builds on Cohen’s decisive win in September’s Democratic primary where Cohen defeated the12-year, six-term incumbent by an overwhelming margin of 72% to 28%.

Cohen is a parent of two North Haven public school students, North Haven volunteer firefighter, North Haven small business owner, and in-house counsel for a Connecticut-based Fortune 500 manufacturing company. He campaigned vigorously door-to-door, promising to bring new energy, new ideas, and a new set of experiences to the North Haven Board of Selectmen. Cohen eventually earned the endorsement of the North Haven Democratic Town Committee, followed by prominent endorsements in the general election from statewide leaders including U.S. Senator Chris Murphy, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz, Attorney General William Tong, and State Comptroller Sean Scanlon, among others.

The North Haven Board of Selectmen is a three-person elected board with each member serving two year terms, and one seat reserved for the minority party per the town’s charter. Cohen will serve alongside First Selectman Michael Freda and Second Selectman William Pieper, who were also winners in Tuesday’s municipal election.
